CATALPA CAPITAL ADVISORS

Catalpa’s investment management activities and research focus exclusively on the identification and analysis of discontinuous change and its impact on the global economy and financial markets. In contrast to incremental changes within an ongoing equilibrium, discontinuous change marks a radical break to the equilibrium itself, disrupting the status quo and ushering in new innovation. These changes can arise gradually as tipping points or suddenly when gales of Schumpeterian creative destruction rip through economies.

Catalpa manages assets for investors directly and through partnerships with financial advisors. Catalpa’s investment strategies are offered through separately-managed accounts and other investment vehicles. To find out more, please click on investments.

Catalpa publishes the following macroeconomic research: Daily Intelligence Briefings; Macro Deck; Global Country Monitor; Macro Insights, and Catalpa Perspectives. To find out more, please click on research.

TEAM

Catalpa Capital is headed by Joseph McAlinden, who, in his former role as Chief Investment Officer of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, oversaw more than $400 billion invested across multiple asset classes, strategies, and global markets. Catalpa’s team has more than 70 years of combined experience in portfolio management, economic analysis, asset allocation, and trading in the global markets.

Catalpa Capital Advisors is based in New York City and focuses on the identification of “discontinuous change” in the markets and global economy. In contrast to incremental changes within an ongoing equilibrium, discontinuous change marks a radical break to the equilibrium itself, disrupting the status quo and ushering in new innovation.

Discontinuities can be caused by disruptions in technology, business-cycle turning points, government regulations, innovative business models, and natural events.

These changes can arise gradually as tipping points or suddenly when gales of Schumpeterian creative destruction rip through economies.

The Daily Intelligence Briefing, or “DIBs,” is a compilation of data points, media reports, and blog entries that broadly relate to change or resistance to change. The DIBs serves as the springboard for the team’s morning meeting and is posted in the afternoon for the benefit of those who may have an interest in the team’s research.
